He had got a diploma in Master of Theology. He was ordained as priest in 1906. He served at Mogilov, and after that he was appointed as professor at the St. Petersburg Theological seminary. Since 1914 he was chancellor of the curia of the Mogilov Metropolis in St. Petersburg. In 1923 he was arrested and sentenced to imprisonment for 3 years. In 1925 he was released, after that he served as a parish priest in the church of St. Stanislav in Leningrad. In 1927 he was arrested again and sentenced to prison camp for 5 years. He was a prisoner at the camp of Solovki. In 1932 he was transferred from there to the prison of NKVD, where he died by cerebral vascular accident on August 11th 1932, as a consequence of the endured trials. He was buried under an assumed name in the Transfiguration Cemetery in St. Petersburg. The site of the burial has not found.
Fr. John was ready to accept the martyrdom for the faith. During an interrogation in 1932 he said: "I confide myself to be a profound believer, Catholic by conviction and as a priest. According to my convictions I am ready to sacrifice my life.”
“Truly, truly, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone: but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit.
He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”
(John 12, 24-26)
