Servant of God Fr. Pavel Khomich 1893—1942

Pavel Semionovich Khomich was born on October 17th 1893, at Volkovysk in Grodnen Province. He was graduated from the seminary and then from the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. He was ordained as priest in 1916. After the October revolution he served in the parishes of Petrograd and the surrounding district. Since 1920 he was the parish priest in Pskov, since 1923 - in the parish of St. Casimir in Leningrad. He led groups of the faithful - the tertiaries of St. Francis and the circles of the Holy Rosary. He was arrested in Leningrad in 1926 and sentenced to prison camp for ten years. He was a prisoner of the camp of Solovki. He was released in 1936. He unsuccessfully looked for a chance to serve legally in various towns of Russia. In August 1939 he returned to Leningrad, where he resided illegally, and celebrated the Holy Masses secretly in private apartments. Since the deportation of Fr. M. Florence from Leningrad, he accepted the responsibilities of Apostolic Administrator of Leningrad. He was arrested in 1942 and condemned to death. He was shot on 10th  September in Leningrad.

During the time of his imprisonment at Solovki, Fr. Pavel displayed great charity to the other prisoners and often visited the men of serious case. He played an important role among the co-prisoned priests and was one of the organizers of their common religious life. During his interrogations in 1942 Fr. Pavel spoke frankly about his religious work and his convictions, although he knew that this carried the threat of persecution and death. During the interrogation in 1932 he said: "in my letters I underlined the point, that I'm satisfied with my fate that God had marked for me with the sufferings in order to strengthen the faithful".

The prayer for beatification of the Servant of God Fr. Pavel Khomich

O God Almighty, Your Son suffered on the Cross and died for the salvation of people. Imitating Him, Your Servant Fr. Make him known in the assembly of Your blessed, so that the example of his faithfulness and love would shine before the whole world. I pray to You through his intercession, hear my request ……………….. through Christ our Lord. Amen.
